VCU Student Media 2010-2011 Recap

We had ourselves a little in-house gathering last week, where members of each organization sat down for good food and conversation before wrapping things up for the school year. As you may remember from last week’s post, we’ve won a couple awards this year AND received the wonderful opportunity to cover VCU’s Final Four Run. Student media organizations get recognized in SPJ, VPA awards

Mel Kobran, Adam Stern and Kyle LaFerriere receiving The Commonwealth Times award for Best All Around Non-Daily Newspaper.

This weekend students from The Commonwealth Times, Ink Magazine and Rams Review traveled to Norfolk for the Society of Professional Journalists Region 2 Mark of Excellence Awards and the Virginia Press Association awards. The region includes universities and colleges from Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia and were for the 2010 calendar year.

The Commonwealth Times won twice as many awards as last year and did extremely well in the photography and design categories. Take a look at the impressive list of awards below.

Student media leaders help cover VCU Final Four

VCU’s rise to the Final Four during the National College Athletic Association’s tournament shined the spotlight on not only the school, but the Student Media Center as well. Locally and nationally, student leaders from various SMC organizations stepped up to the plate for special reports, or to provide their expert opinion.

The VCU Student Media Center will be at the SOVO Fair. Come see how you can get involved with Amendment, WVCW , Commonwealth Times , Ink Magazine , Poictesme and Mesh Media/VCU Rams Review . It’s this Friday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m on the second floor of the Student Commons.
